Shepetovka . . . from the cites, the towns and villages . . . a nation driven from its homeland by persecution ... refugees who carried their worldly possessions in battered suitcases embarking on an 8,000 mile journey to a strange country ... refugees who carried the music of their homeland in their hearts to pass on to their children and preserve their heritage forever.

The kolomyka, the oberek, the waltzes and polkas, the schottisches . . . these were the historic folk dances that have stood the test of time and made Ukrainian music today a part
of the musical mosaic of Canada’s ethnic community.
